What you need to throw Brazilian party for the World Cup

The content in this article may now be out of date. Please try searching for a more recent version.

Hopefully if the weather is right, it may be just like being in Rio (Or close enough) when the World Cup kicks off.

With the World Cup being held in the carnival atmosphere of Brazil, why not look to throw a South American themed party when you are about the watch one of the big games. Bring the carnival of Rio de Janeiro to your home, without looking to break the bank.

Here’s what you need:

Samba music

Nothing says Brazil like Samba. Download Spotify for free via your smartphone, tablet or computer and use an array of Samba songs.

Bring out the colours!

Brazil is a country rich in colour. Theme your plates, cups, banners and decorations with as many bright colours as possible. The national colours of Brazil are blue, green and yellow.

Why not buy some Brazilian flag bunting to put around the home?

Play a game

If you have enough room in your garden or a local field, why not have a kick about with a traditional Brazilian football – a Futbol. They are smaller than a traditional football.

If you have a bigger space, why not make a game of volleyball. Just like on the beaches of Brazil.

Rustle up some Brazilian food

Serve your guests some traditional Brazilian cuisine. Coxinha (minced chicken shaped on a drumstick and deep fried), Feijoada (black beans, pork and beef) and Pao de queijo (Traditional Brazilian bread) are some of the foods you can try your hand at.

Check out this recipe for Feijoada. Why not search online for many more Brazilian recipes.

Dress code

Why not have a themed dress code. Bring the carnival atmosphere of Rio to your home. Wear bright colours for your outfit.

How about adding some colourful synthetic feathers to re-create the samba carnival dancers of Brazil?

Let’s get ready for kick off... not kick off!

A lot of us will be excited at watching the World Cup. There will be many people though who aren’t interested. Due to the time difference, a lot of games will kick off late at night.
