Four thousand new homes will be delivered across Bromford's operating area thanks to new strategic partnership funding from Homes England.

A successful bid to retain its status as one of Homes England’s strategic partners has secured £240m worth of government funding to help Bromford boost the delivery of affordable homes.

Bromford was originally chosen as one of 23 new strategic partners in January 2019 and its bid to extend that partnership has now been confirmed by the secretary of state for housing, Robert Jenrick.

It means Bromford will deliver 4,000 new homes across 40 local authorities, including those in the West Midlands, Gloucestershire and the West of England.

The award is part of the government’s Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), where Homes England has allocated £5.2bn to 31 strategic partnerships. Bromford will deliver a five-year programme lasting to the end of 2028-2029. It comes after we were assessed on a range of criteria including our strategic ambition, targets around sustainability, and our track record on delivering homes at scale.

At least 25% of homes built under the AHP scheme must be through modern methods of construction (MMC) such as modular housing. This supports Bromford’s own strategy to reduce its reliance on traditional building methods and deliver at least 250 homes per year through offsite construction.

Chief investment officer, Martyn Blackman, commented: “We are delighted to have been selected as a strategic partner with Homes England as it will allow us to deliver 4,000 new affordable homes which will make a difference to thousands of people’s lives.

“A key part of our purpose is to provide affordable homes for people who can’t access market housing and we believe in providing safe, secure and warm homes to enable our current and future customers to thrive. Securing this long-term funding gives us the certainty to be able to deliver our ambitious plans and invest in building the affordable homes our communities need.”

Bromford is one of the biggest housebuilding housing associations in the country and over the next eight years our goal is to have built 12,000 new affordable homes.
