As the days become longer, lighter and (hopefully) sunnier, it’s a sure sign that spring is on its way. This is the ideal opportunity to don your rubber gloves and give your home a nice deep clean.

It can be difficult to know where to start, right? Here are five handy tricks and tips to give your home the TLC it deserves.

Did you know you should turn your mattress every month? Hoover any dust and other debris away before sprinkling bicarbonate of soda evenly over the mattress. After a few hours, hoover it off and leave your mattress and bedroom feeling fresh! A quick wash and whiten of your duvet and pillows will complete the look.

Buy a single lemon and cut in two. One half can then be used to scrub away any stains on your stainless steel while the other half can be used for… the garnish in a well-earned cocktail? Steam clean your microwave using water, lemon oil and a microwaveable dish and use baking soda and vinegar to get your oven back to its gleaming best.

It doesn’t matter how careful you are, carpet stains and unsightly spots are a daily reality for most households. Simply soak the stain with distilled vinegar and then sprinkle in some baking soda. Once it has bubbled into a mound and had time to absorb the stain, gently wipe away and vacuum the solution up. You’ll be amazed at the results!

Don’t throw out your old toothbrush! This along with some baking soda and distilled white vinegar can be used to eliminate any mould or lime scale build-up on your bathroom tiles and showerhead. A dab of lemon oil on your shower doors after cleaning can also protect against pesky grime and water damage.

It sounds counter intuitive to clean your washing machine, doesn’t it? But studies show that a typical cycle is not enough to remove a number of infectious viruses. Run a monthly ‘maintenance wash’ with no laundry using the hottest temperature setting. Pour 60g of bicarbonate of soda through the machine at the same time for the best results.

Spring is also the perfect time to get your house in order ready to sell over the summer. Bromford has a growing range of homes for sale right across the Midlands and west of England so why not check out what we have to offer by visiting this page.
