Construction begins on major Cirencester regeneration

The first phase of construction works has started on the multi-million pound regeneration of part of a Cirencester housing estate.

A number of homes on Paterson Road and Golden Farm Road were demolished over the summer months, including two large blocks of flats and a number of garages. Now contractors from E G Carter have begun installing foundations in the first phase of the site as part of plans to build 36 brand new, energy efficient homes for rent and shared ownership.

The Cirencester Regeneration Scheme involves £5.7m being invested in the Beeches Estate to the east of the town centre. The site is being developed in four phases and the first timber frames will be fixed into place by the start of next month. 

We have been working with customers for the past two years to find them suitable alternative accommodation; with the option of returning to the new properties once they are built. Residents are expected to be able to start moving to the new 1, 2 and 3-bed homes from winter 2020.

Head of locality, Hazel O’Halloran, said: “We have been working very closely with customers and local residents since we first announced these exciting plans in February 2017. This has included liaising with customers on an individual basis to find them new homes in the local area which they are happy to move to as well as ensuring the wider neighbourhood is kept fully informed about the proposed timescale for our build programme.

“We are really pleased to be rejuvenating the Beeches Estate and seeing the initial foundations go in marks a significant milestone in what is our first regeneration project in Gloucestershire. These new properties will meet a real local demand both for affordable rented homes as well as people looking to get a first step on the property ladder through shared ownership.”

The project comes after Bromford announced the launch of the Bromford Construction Partnership (BCP) earlier this month – a £160m collaboration with E G Carter, Galliford Try Partnerships, Lovell Partnerships and Speller Metcalfe to deliver up to 400 new homes a year in Gloucestershire and the West of England.
