Family home to become supported housing scheme

Birmingham council bosses have approved ambitious plans for a large family home to be transformed into a brand new supported housing development in the east of the city.

Bromford will invest £2m in Garrett’s Green after purchasing a plot of land on Tile Cross Road. Once the existing site is cleared, a MyPlace supported housing development with 14 self-contained one bedroom apartments will be built alongside an additional two two-bedroom homes, taking the total number of new homes to 16.

A planning application was lodged in January and councillors from Birmingham City Council gave a green light to the proposals following a planning committee meeting at the end of July.

Bromford’s construction team aim to commence the clearing of the site ready for construction by the end of autumn 2018 and bosses expect significant interest in the new homes being in close proximity to local shops, restaurants and parks. The two-storey MyPlace site will give adults with long-term needs the opportunity to live in their own home and also includes a kitchen area, office, car parking, landscaped gardens and a communal hub which will host training, employment advice sessions and activities for residents.
