Bromford has purchased vacant land in Burntwood and has announced plans to transform the site into a brand new housing development.

Under the proposals, a MyPlace supported housing development with 14 self-contained one bedroom apartments would be built alongside 14 two and three-bedroom homes for affordable rent. Bromford intend to invest around £3.1m in the site, which is situated just off the high street in Cannock Road and has remained unused for a number of years.

The MyPlace site would give adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to live in their own home and also includes a communal hub, kitchen area, site office, car parking and landscaped gardens. The 14 homes would consist of eight two-beds and six three-beds.

Being situated close to Burntwood high street, the site is within walking distance of local shops, restaurants, parks, leisure centres and schools and colleges.

Staffordshire County Council has identified a need for this type of accommodation in the area and a planning application was submitted to Lichfield District Council’s planning committee last week allowing local residents an opportunity to comment on the proposed investment. If planning officers do give the development a green light, Bromford’s in-house construction team could start clearing the site ready for construction by May 2018.

Josie Bishton, new business manager, said: “We are pleased to have exchanged contracts on this site which is in a very desirable location close to the town centre.

“As the main housing provider in Lichfield District, this is an area we know well and where we are really keen to invest in. This 28-home development would not only provide affordable housing for local people but also give vulnerable people the opportunity to live in a safe and secure environment where they can take control of their own life, reduce their dependency and ultimately live more independently.”
