Emotional ties to the family home are the single biggest barrier for retirees thinking of moving to retirement living villages, according to new research.

Industry lending specialist more2life surveyed hundreds of its clients and found that for 87% of them, connections and memories with the family home meant they were reluctant to move into a retirement living community. Over half of people quizzed (52%) said they were keen to move but couldn’t find another suitable property to move into.

Other explanations included moving costs being too high (35%), leaving it too late to move (29%), and the level of stamp duty they would be required to pay being too high (20%).

Bromford’s new retirement living homes, catering exclusively for over 55s, are specifically built in aspirational town centre locations with a range of facilities included as standard such as a café bistro, lounge, activity studio, gym and hair and beauty salon. Each development is purposely built to cater for all lifestyles, bringing people together in one, diverse community of friends and neighbours.

New chapter

Penny Downing, Bromford’s director of sales and marketing, said: “We understand that moving to any retirement living home is a very big decision for people and can be a stressful time, especially for our older customers. That’s why we arrange a network of support through estate agents, a moving in service and solicitors.

“Everything we do is to try and take the stress out of one of the most important moves in our customers’ lives. We definitely see moving to our retirement living homes as the start of an exciting new chapter rather than something daunting.”

Why not check out what one of our retirement living developments can offer you? We’re currently building in Stourport and Banbury and apartments are already selling at the former with expressions of interest being sought for the latter.
