Bromford has been given the green light to build almost 100 new homes on a former industrial estate in Burntwood, it has been announced.

Lichfield District Council has given us permission to build 95 new homes for social rent, shared ownership and private sale on land off Mount Road in Burntwood. The site was given outline planning permission in 2017 and the revised application has now been ratified by the local authority under delegated powers. It paves the way for us to complete our latest development in a county where we already own around 6,700 homes, making us the largest housing association in the area.

The land, which borders onto New Road to the south of the town centre, is part of the former Mount Road Industrial Estate where several former factory buildings have lain empty for a number of years. Over the summer four industrial buildings were razed to the ground ahead of us investing £16m to transform the site.

It marks the second significant housing development for Bromford in Burntwood in recent times as we currently carry out a £3.1m redevelopment of land at Cannock Road with residents expected to move in during the early part of next year. The project has seen 13 new homes built for affordable rent as well as a new MyPlace supported housing development with 14 self-contained one bedroom apartments.

Work at Mount Road is scheduled to start on site during winter 2019 and will be carried out by our in-house construction team, Bromford Developments Limited (BDL).

Senior land manager, Nathan Deen, said: “We are delighted to secure planning approval for this site which is in a fantastic location being so close to the local primary school and outdoor recreational spaces as well as just a short walk to the high street with its shops, restaurants, and other amenities.

“As the main housing provider in Lichfield District, Burntwood is an area we know well and where we are really keen to invest in. This 95-home development will meet a real local demand both for social rented homes as well as people looking to get a first step on to the property ladder through shared ownership.”
