Plans to regenerate part of a Cirencester housing estate are well underway as two large bulldozers moved in to start the demolition process.

The Cirencester Regeneration Scheme is being spearheaded by Bromford as part of a £5.7m investment in the Beeches Estate to the east of the town centre.

A total of 43 homes are being razed to the ground on Paterson Road and Golden Farm Road by contractors from E G Carter & Co Ltd including two large blocks of flats and a number of garages. The old homes were considered expensive to maintain and run and, in their place, 36 brand new energy efficient homes will be built for rent and shared ownership.

Bromford has around 8,500 homes in the Gloucestershire area and has been working with customers for the past two years to find them suitable alternative accommodation; with the option of returning to the new properties once they are built.

The demolition will last 10 weeks and is being completed in phases before E G Carter begin construction of the 1, 2 and 3-bed homes later this summer. Residents are expected to be able to start moving to the new properties in winter 2020.

Local demand

Head of locality, Hazel O’Halloran, said: “We are delighted to be breathing new life into the local area and seeing the bulldozers move in is always an exciting milestone in what is our first regeneration project in this county.

“As the largest housing association in Gloucestershire, financially strong organisations like Bromford have a central role to play in investing in new and existing homes and services. We know the new homes will meet a real local demand both for affordable rented homes as well as people looking to get a first step on the property ladder through shared ownership.”

Residents were relocated to various homes in the local area including the new 94-home development at London Road, a short distance from Paterson Road, of which Bromford own and manage 47 of the properties.
