Losing a job is tough, especially if you've been working and loving it for ages. But when your job is tied to your home, things get real messy! Suddenly, you're not just jobless, but you're also without a roof over your head.

That’s the situation Mark Hill found himself in after he lost his job as a school caretaker due to health reasons. And he admits that it sent him in a downward spiral mentally, which at its lowest point led to him attempting to take his own life. Since then, he’s been focused on his recovery and finding a new place to live has played a big part in this.

I've gone from being suicidal … to actually feeling ... I said, me … This house is everything to us now … So it's the best thing I've ever done.

Mark Hill

Gloucestershire

Mark and his family applied to move into a Bromford home in Gloucestershire and after meeting with their neighbourhood coach, were approved and moved in at the start of the year. They haven’t looked back since. It’s already feeling like a real home and they’re making friends in the community, getting involved in village activities and Mark says he feels like himself again and is happier than ever.

Providing homes to homeless families is one of the core principles of Bromford’s homelessness reduction plan. In the 12 months to March 2022, in Bromford’s main four local authority areas which make up more than 50% of the homes Bromford own, around 30% of the homes Bromford let went to homeless families.
