From 19-23 October, we're marking Supported Housing Week, recognising the role supported housing plays in helping people live independently, build confidence and achieve their goals.
Across Bromford Flagship LiveWest, around 270 supported housing schemes support more than 4,100 customers across the South West, East and Central England. From helping people through difficult periods in their lives to supporting customers to gain the skills they need to live independently, supported housing changes lives every day.
No two customers are the same, which is why support is tailored to individual needs and aspirations. This can include developing practical life skills, managing a tenancy, improving health and wellbeing, accessing education or employment opportunities, and building confidence and community connections.
Our services include:
- 11 extra care schemes supporting more than 460 customers
- More than 90 learning disability schemes supporting around 640 people
- dedicated adults and families services supporting more than 290 adults and 95 families
- 19 schemes helping around 430 young people build the skills and confidence they need to live independently
Building confidence and independence
For customers like Sophie, supported housing provides opportunities to learn new skills and gain greater independence.
With support from colleagues, Sophie has been building her confidence and developing skills that are helping her achieve things that once felt out of reach. Her story demonstrates how the right support can empower people to make choices about their future and work towards the goals that matter most to them.
Creating stability and a fresh start
For others, supported housing offers stability at a time when they need it most.
When Ava moved into one of our adults and families schemes with her young daughter, she was looking for a safe place to rebuild their lives. With support from colleagues, she grew in confidence, developed her independence and began planning for the future.
Ava later moved into a permanent home of her own, giving her and her daughter a secure place to put down roots and thrive.
Support through life's biggest challenges
Supported housing can also provide vital support during periods of uncertainty and significant change.
One customer at Emery Place found himself facing an uncertain future after losing both his mum and brother within a short space of time. Having lived with his mum all his life, he suddenly had to navigate grief, change and the possibility of homelessness.
With support from colleagues and partner agencies, he was able to move into a home of his own and begin rebuilding his confidence. Today, he's developing everyday life skills, taking part in community activities and embracing opportunities to learn and connect with others.
His journey highlights the difference that a safe home and the right support can make when people face some of life's most difficult circumstances.
Celebrating the impact of supported housing
Supported Housing Week is an opportunity to celebrate the customers, colleagues and partners who make these stories possible every day.
Whether it's helping someone develop independence, supporting a family to build a stable future or providing a safe place during a time of crisis, supported housing continues to make a life-changing difference to thousands of people across our communities.
