One of our assistant site managers helping to build new affordable homes has been shortlisted for the 2022 Young Builder of the Year Awards.

Dan Boam is one of a handful of finalists in the 18 to 25-year-old category of this year’s annual awards, which were set up by Youthbuild UK, to celebrate the achievements of young people in the construction sector. Dan will be heading to the House of Commons next Wednesday for the awards ceremony to find out if he’s won the overall prize.

Dan, who is currently overseeing the completion of the final homes at our 95-plot development at Mount Road in Burntwood, said: “I didn’t know too much about the Youthbuild awards until [Head of Construction] Simon Kershaw called and said he was going to nominate me. It’s great to make it to the final and it’ll be an interesting experience going to the House of Commons for the awards.”

Dan started his career as an electrician and joined Bromford four-and-a-half years ago as a trainee assistant site manager. He'll shortly be getting his first experience of running a site by himself; once the homes at Mount Road have been completed Dan will be heading to Stourport to oversee the construction of a 12-home brownfield development near the centre of the town.

“I’m really looking forward to it – it’ll be a good experience to be there by myself, running the site from start to finish," he said. "It’s a great site to get that experience, to learn more and build new relationships, although it does mean a longer drive to work than I currently have!

“I like being able to see something through to the end, to be able to stand back and see that you and the team have done a good job. Getting praise from the NHBC inspector and other colleagues definitely boosts my confidence and makes me want to continue doing better.”
