Sentinel Place in Albert Road has officially opened, providing 14 self-contained one-bedroom apartments alongside a communal hub.

Sentinel Place is our 14th and final MyPlace scheme, a programme that provides safe, independent homes for people with a learning disability or mental health diagnosis.

An onsite care provider will be based at the scheme to offer tailored support to each resident.

Jacqueline Lea, MyPlace Manager, said: “Sentinel Place is among the best buildings we’ve ever delivered through the MyPlace programme, and it’s a fitting way to complete a journey that started back in 2015.

“The open days we’ve been running have generated a fantastic response, and we’ve been busy assessing customers for the scheme. Once people move in and settle, they absolutely thrive, it’s a wonderful environment.”

Catherine Jarrett, Regional Director, said: “Over the past decade, MyPlace has transformed the lives of hundreds of people across the Midlands and beyond. Having your own front door, your own space, and the support you need on hand, that combination makes an extraordinary difference.”

Catherine Arnold, Customer Care Manager, said: “The greatest challenge, and the most rewarding, was supporting customers and their families to believe that independent living was possible.

“For many, this step came with understandable fears. It required time, patience, and compassion to listen, reassure, and gently show that with the right support, independence could be life-changing.

“What followed was always the most inspiring part. People quickly began to embrace their independence, exploring new interests, forming relationships, and building lives shaped by their own choices.”

Tracey Bird, Post Contract Manager, said: “I’ve felt privileged to be part of this journey. We’ve seen so much change nationally during those years, but what hasn’t faltered has been our commitment to the build quality of this product and our acceptance of necessary change and improvement for our customers along the way.

“Nothing quite beats the satisfaction and pride of seeing and meeting the customers that occupy these properties, and when they are also proud, that says it all.”

MyPlace was launched in 2015 as an innovative supported housing model designed and built by our in-house construction team. Each scheme follows a cluster model of self-contained apartments with a shared community hub, giving residents independence while ensuring they have access to specialist care and housing support.

The programme has delivered 14 schemes across Birmingham, Staffordshire, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Worcestershire, Telford, and now Shropshire. Each one includes a dedicated housing enabler based onsite who works alongside residents to help them build confidence, learn new skills, and make the most of opportunities in their local community.

For families who may have spent years worrying about the future of a loved one with a learning disability or mental health condition, MyPlace has offered peace of mind. Many residents have moved from care homes or family homes where they were dependent on others, and have gone on to build more independent, fulfilling lives.

One customer who has been living in a MyPlace scheme said: “I enjoy having my own space, being able to cook fresh meals with my staff. I get the support I need.

“We have evening activities in the hub that I like to use, my favourite is the karaoke and chippy night, my family are allowed to visit me in my home. My housing enabler Claire helps me to get my repairs done.”
