Dozens of local families will soon have access to affordable housing in Droitwich Spa after planners approved a 100-home development with the environment in mind.

The project off Tagwell Road includes 60 homes for social rent (60% of market rates) and 40 for shared ownership – an affordable part-buy/part-rent scheme.

Wychavon District Council has given planning approval for the development, which will be built by Bromford – part of Bromford Flagship – of the country's largest housing associations with a commitment to deliver 2,000 new homes each year for the next 30 years.

Each home will feature solar panels to generate renewable energy, high-performance glazing to keep energy bills down, and electric vehicle charging points.

The development will also include wildflower meadows, new hedgerows and trees to boost biodiversity, plus safe walking and cycling routes connecting to the wider area.

Alastair Bird, Planning Manager at Bromford, said: "We're thrilled that Wychavon District Council has approved these plans. The mix of social rent and shared ownership means we're opening doors for people at different stages of their housing journey, and we’re making sure these homes work for the planet too."

The development is on a 12-acre site in the town’s east and will include a mix of one and two-bedroom flats alongside two, three and four-bedroom houses.

Mr Bird said: "Droitwich Spa needed these homes. With house prices running at 12 times the average local income, finding an affordable place to live here has become a challenge for many families. This development changes that for 100 households, and we're proud to be delivering homes that don't compromise on quality or sustainability."

The project has received backing from Homes England and will be built by Bromford’s in-house construction team, with work starting in early 2026 and completion expected in 2027.
