This spring, residents at David Garrick Gardens came together to create a vibrant community garden at the community centre, supported by their Neighbourhood Coach.

The project involved preparing garden beds, planting a variety of flowers and vegetables, and tending to them on a weekly basis. Customers planted tomatoes, courgettes, pumpkins, and runner beans, and the produce is shared with other members of the community once it ripens.

The initiative has become a regular activity that encourages socialising and builds relationships between customers, as well as linking the scheme with local volunteer groups and the wider community. It also provides an important opportunity for customers who may feel isolated or lonely to get outdoors, enjoy physical activity, and take pride in a shared project.

By transforming the garden space, customers have not only improved the environment around David Garrick Gardens but also created a sense of ownership and achievement, fostering a stronger and more connected community.
