Our in-house construction team has been recognised at a national level after one of its sites was named the safest small construction site in the UK.
Our Bromford Developments Ltd (BDL) site at Oakleigh Heath in Hallow won the Small Builder Site award at the inaugural Homebuilder Safety Awards earlier this month. Site Manager Scott Finnegan and his team of Neil Robbins, Brooke Evans and Cade Davis took home the national award for their dedication to ensuring exceptional site safety. The development is a mixed scheme of 24 social rent and 16 shared ownership homes in the Worcestershire village, which is due to complete in spring 2026.
Adding to the success, BDL also scooped the Runners-up award in the same category for our site at Albert Road in Shrewsbury. Site Manager Keith Jones and Assistant Site Manager Keith Jones are leading the construction of our latest MyPlace support living scheme of 15 properties and 12 adjoining homes, which is nearing completion with handovers due early next year.
Head of Construction Simon Kershaw said: “It was an amazing evening. To not only win the national award but also claim the runners-up spot as well is an incredible achievement. I’m really proud of all our teams who work so hard to embed health and safety in all of our sites and create a safe, positive, working environment for everyone.
“Health and safety is the first thing we think about every day; it’s our absolute top priority. We want to make sure that everyone that walks onto one of our sites goes homes in exactly the same state they arrived in. These awards show we have industry-leading standards on our sites and show our commitment to building quality, affordable homes while maintaining exceptional safety performance.”
Each site had three independent, unannounced inspections by independent health and safety professionals wearing body cameras to record conditions and check paperwork. The inspections were assessed by an independent judging panel ahead of the gala awards held at the Grand Hotel Birmingham.
The double success follows another recent achievement for BDL, after they received a Gold Employer Partner Award at the AccXel Construction School awards. We’ve worked with the Forest of Dean training centre to provide national vocational qualifications for ten of our site managers and in September began training our latest intake of four apprentice site managers with the company.
Simon added: “We’re committed to developing the next generation of construction talent that we need if we are going to meet our ambitious housebuilding targets in the years ahead. Awards like these, along with the recent recognition from the 5% Club show we’re firmly on track to do this.”
