One of our apprentices has been recognised on the national stage after being commended in the 19-24 category at the YouthBuild UK Young Builder of the Year Awards, held at the House of Commons this week, Wednesday 28 October 2026

Daisy Trainor joined us two years ago as a Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician and was recognised for the resilience, determination and personal growth she has shown.

With support from her family, Daisy enrolled on the Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Level 3 apprenticeship at Staffordshire college.

Today, Daisy is a valued member of our service delivery team, helping customers stay safe, warm and comfortable in their homes. Her commitment to learning recently saw her achieve 98% in a college exam, a result her tutor described as one of the highest they had seen.

Breaking barriers

Daisy has built her career in the trades, an industry where women remain underrepresented. Her experience and achievements show that there are opportunities for women to develop successful careers in the sector.

Daisy now installs boilers and radiators, works safely at height and carries out tasks in loft spaces. Every new challenge she has faced has strengthened her confidence and reinforced her belief that she belongs in an industry where women remain underrepresented.

Reflecting on her experience, Daisy said: "The support of my colleagues has been instrumental in my journey. Their encouragement and willingness to share their knowledge has helped me develop both technically and personally. I am proud to be part of a team that values learning, collaboration and supporting one another."

Although Daisy narrowly missed out on the overall award, being commended at a national awards ceremony is a significant achievement and recognition of how far she has come.

"The support of my colleagues has been instrumental in my journey. Their encouragement and willingness to share their knowledge has helped me develop both technically and personally. I am proud to be part of a team that values learning, collaboration and supporting one another."

Inspiring the next generation

As she enters the next stage of her apprenticeship, Daisy hopes to continue building her skills and develop a long-term career with Bromford. She also wants to encourage more young people, especially those who may lack confidence or face personal challenges, to believe in their potential and pursue a career in the industry.

Daisy’s career shows what an apprenticeship can lead to. With an ambition to sustain 600 apprentices across our wider BFL group
