We’ve stepped in to give new life to a development of homes in Worcester that had stood unoccupied for six years.
Originally developed by Misters Brothers Limited, the 12 homes at Birch Meadow in Battenhall were completed back in 2019- but had never been lived in. Now, thanks to close partnership working with Worcester City Council, we’ve taken ownership of the properties and turned them into much-needed affordable housing for the city.
This is a big moment not just for the development, but for local people waiting for a safe, secure place to live. We’ve worked closely with external stakeholders to bring these homes into use, and they’re now ready to welcome new customers.
It’s all part of our wider commitment to working with local authorities across Worcestershire and beyond to tackle the demand for high-quality affordable homes. By collaborating with councils, housing providers and other partners, we’re helping to meet the growing need for social and affordable housing.
Carla Bufton, project manager here at Bromford, said “We’re incredibly proud to have played a part in bringing this development into occupation. These homes are in fantastic location but have sadly never been lived in. By stepping in and working with our partners, we’ve been able to overcome barriers, take ownership, and do what we do best – provide safe, affordable homes for people who need them.
“With 3,910 families on the waiting list in Worcester last year, we know just how important every home is. Seeing families start to move in is a real reminder of the difference these homes can make.”
One of our customers, Samantha, is just moving in, and she shared the impact it’s going to have on her “It's going to revolutionise my whole life. I've got a garden, which is incredible. Every part of the house services my needs, and I can just see me being really, really happy here.”
Nine of the 12 homes will be let at social rent, with the remaining three available for shared ownership, giving more people the opportunity to put down roots in a place they can call home.
Local councillor Jabba Riaz, Chair of Worcester City Council’s Communities Committee, also welcomed the news, “It is great news to have these affordable properties available.
It is thanks to the collective efforts of Worcester City Council, Bromford and Misters Brother Limited that the properties are now ready to be occupied.”
This project shows what’s possible when we work together, and these homes can now start to make a real difference to local people.
