Building work has begun on a new development that will bring more than 100 affordable homes to South Gloucestershire.
We've started work on its site off Iron Acton Way in Yate, next to Yate Town Football Club’s South West Interiors Stadium. We bought the land in a multi-million pound deal last year. Our in-house construction team, Bromford Developments Ltd, has now started work preparing the site for the 118 home development. Prelimary work has included removing some of the existing trees on the 16 acre site, with the chippings being donated to Brimsham Green School for their wildlife area.
Next we are starting work to create a new access point to the site off of Iron Acton Way and creating new connections to existing utilities. This work will require traffic-controlled roadworks on Iron Acton Way for 36 weeks, starting from end of May.
Construction Manager Craig Derrick said: “We appreciate the patience and understanding from motorists who will be affected by these roadworks over the weeks ahead. We will aim to complete the work as quickly as possible to limit disruption and so we can start work on the new homes.”
The development is expected to take around three-and-a-half years complete, with the first homes due to be ready for customers to move into in autumn 2026. The homes will be a mix of 1 and 2 bed flats and 2,3 and 4 bed houses with 81 available to rent and 37 for shared ownership.
Land Buyer Adam Crompton added: “We know there remains a real need for more affordable housing in South Gloucestershire, which is why we were interested in acquiring this site. We’re delighted to have started work on this project which will help reduce homelessness, overcrowding, as well as giving first-time buyers the chance to own a home through the shared ownership properties we’re building here. This development will provide people of all ages with modern, energy efficient homes in which they can thrive.”
With more than 9,000 homes we are the biggest housing association in South Gloucestershire. Over the next 30 years we aim to build 60,000 new homes, around half of which will be for social rent.
