What is 'My home energy switch?

'My home energy switch' is a free service for customers to help you get the best price for your gas and electric.

It’s a partnership between the National Housing Federation and Bills Cutter. The National Housing Federation represents the work of housing associations. My home energy switch is a service provided for housing associations and their tenants.

It’s free, fast and simple to switch and all the paperwork is taken care of. It usually takes between 4 – 6 weeks to complete the switch.

Even if you have switched before, it’s a good idea to check prices regularly every 6-9 months. Unless you are in a fixed deal, energy prices and tariffs change frequently.

You can use this service even if you have a pre-payment meter. You can switch to a cheaper pre-payment tariff. To find out more about switching suppliers, click here.

How to Switch:

Step 1

Call 0800 0014 706 or visit All you need is your most recent bill and your postcode. It will take no more than 5 minutes!

Step 2

Select the best deal for you and complete the switch with the help from the 'my home energy switch' team.

Step 3

Sit back and wait. The supplier will contact you to confirm the start date of your new service. You will need to take a meter reading on this date.

Can anyone switch?

There are some circumstances in which people may not be able to benefit from online switching.

For example if you have an exit penalty in your energy contract you will need to talk to your current supplier first

If you owe money on your gas or electric bill you may not be able to switch unless you have entered into an agreement to clear any arrears.
