It was smiles all round as the first resident moved into Bromford’s new multi-million pound retirement living scheme in Stourport.

Father-of-three Michael Duffill became the first person to make the £10.5m development his home when he moved into his one-bedroom apartment on Thursday 19th April with the help of a removal service and his two sons.

The 72-year-old lived in the village of Wilden, just outside of Stourport, for around 15 years before deciding to move to the central location on Vernon Road close to the bowling club where he is already a member.

“I was up early ready to move in,” Mr Duffill said. “The apartment is all well finished and there’s lots of space and lots of extras that initially I wouldn’t have expected.

“My favourite part at the moment, with the sun shining, is the balcony. It seems to be a really comfortable place to live, close to amenities, and for the last four or five years I haven’t been close to shops and amenities. I’m a member of the bowling club which is a five minute walk away so I’ll be there two afternoons a week and probably one evening.

“The café looks good, I don’t think I’ll need the hairdresser much, but I’ll probably use the gym so yes I’m impressed.”

Mr Duffill added: “My children will be much happier now I’m living somewhere that is close to other people. School Gardens is close to Stourport centre so I can go shopping locally, go to the doctors or go to the dentist without getting into a car. It has everything in there that I need and I can spend my time doing what I want to do.”

Bromford have announced that a grand opening will be taking place on Wednesday 27th June when local dignitaries will be invited along to see the new facilities.

Penny Downing, sales and marketing director, said: “It is really exciting to see Mr Duffill in his new Stourport home and with a number of other residents moving in over the course of the next few weeks we are hoping to see lots more happy customers.

“Retirement living at Bromford is about beginning the next chapter in your life and that’s the real sense we are getting as more and more people receive the keys to their lovely new home.”
