A new retirement community in Stourport has been enjoying their first Christmas together with a host of festive events.

School Gardens opened its doors in July and its new residents have been getting into the festive spirit by enjoying a Christmas Market at the 60-one and two bedroom scheme situated in the heart of the town. Up to a dozen local businesses hosted stalls in the main atrium with items like jewellery, clothing, handcrafted cards, pale ales and handmade chocolates helping people to top up their stocking fillers.

On Friday (December 14) a special Christmas Party was held at the £10.5m development, which Bromford built and now manage, complete with food, refreshments and live music from Amy G and Lee O’Neil.

Jackie and Ken Law, 88 and 86 respectively, who moved to School Gardens to get extra support living with Ken’s disability, said both events had really helped to bring the newly formed community together.

“Christmas is a time when people come together and we’re certainly doing that at School Gardens this year,” Jackie added. “Moving here has been the best thing that could have happened to us and it’s in such a convenient location, with shops close by and the carers are brilliant with the support they offer.”

Laura Weston, scheme manager at School Gardens, said: “Seeing so many nearby businesses come here to showcase their locally made goods and then customers forging new relationships and sharing some Christmas cheer really highlights the type of community that is already being established here at School Gardens.

“Residents can get involved in as much or as little as they like and that’s why School Gardens is for everyone and truly caters for every kind of lifestyle.”

The facility, which caters for people aged 55 and over, features a café bistro, lounge, activity studio, gym, hair and beauty salon and landscaped gardens.

A few apartments remain up for grabs and those interested are encouraged to come and view the show apartment on Vernon Road. Alternatively people can call 01299 825030 or visit this page for further information.
