Construction work has commenced at a Staffordshire regeneration scheme which is bringing a multi-million pound investment to the local area.

Bromford is spearheading a £3.5m regeneration programme set to breathe new life into Packington, near Lichfield. Our construction team has started installing foundations at the Levett Road site where 22 brand new energy efficient homes are being built to replace the previous homes which were demolished in August.

The early phase of the project includes groundwork and the construction of a new access road ahead of the initial bricklaying getting underway in early 2018. Planning permission was rubber-stamped back in February and the site, which is adjacent to Whittington Barracks, will ultimately feature a range of two and three-bedroom homes – 13 for affordable rent, eight for shared ownership and one for outright sale.

The homes recently bulldozed were made from a concrete, non-traditional construction which meant they had a poor energy efficient rating and were costly to heat and run. As part of an asset management strategy designed to build and provide the right homes for all customers, Bromford decided the best option was to regenerate the site and have been working closely with residents and neighbours since the proposals were announced in March 2016.

Head of locality, Suzanne Shead, said: “Levett Road is the first of three new Bromford regeneration schemes across Staffordshire and we expect it to bring significant benefits not just to our customers but also the wider community. It is wonderful to see the first major construction milestone underway with the foundations going in.

“We know the demand for affordable properties to rent is high and felt that Levett Road provided us with a fantastic opportunity to regenerate these homes and invest in the area. By incorporating shared ownership into the site as well we are also giving people who can’t necessarily afford to buy on the open market a brilliant opportunity to get on the property ladder.”
