A date has been set for the next stage of major work to the roof at a new £12m retirement living scheme in Banbury, it has been revealed.

Construction work at Park Gardens, on Bath Road, will reach a significant phase when the first roof tiles are added in September. This work will initially concentrate on the northern end of the site, adjacent to People’s Park, where the sales and marketing suite and show apartment is due to open towards the end of the year.

The project, being carried out by Bromford’s in-house construction team, has been divided into three main phases. The installation of the concrete first-floor is also due to begin this week.

The multi-million pound scheme is being built on land previously belonging to Banbury and Bicester College. The college, which is part of Activate Learning, made the land available after relocating its media and motor vehicle facilities to a new, £6m centre, on the opposite side of Broughton Road more than three years ago.

Park Gardens will feature a range of one and two bedroom apartments with options for rent or purchase. Along with a café bar, lounge, activity studio, gym and hair and beauty salon, the four-storey building will provide residents with a safe, secure and happy home environment. It is expected residents will move in early 2019 and as progress on the development moves forwards, the on-site facilities will create a number of job opportunities for local businesses and the wider community.

Penny Downing, Bromford’s sales and marketing director, said: “Our in-house construction team are doing a fantastic job and it really feels like we are approaching an exciting and significant stage of the development because once the first roof tiles go on we will begin to get an idea of how the final building will look in all its glory.

“Park Gardens will offer residents a safe, secure and happy home as well as creating a vibrant and lively community for residents and the wider community to enjoy.”
