Construction work has begun to transform a former Bromsgrove job centre into a new multi-million pound housing development.

Bromford has started building its latest development on Recreation Road, where a Masonic hall and Jobcentre Plus building used to stand. In its place, a MyPlace supported housing facility called Bryson Place will breathe new life into the area and comprises of 14 single-bedroom flats, a communal hub, office, car parking and landscaped gardens.

As part of the £2.5m project, which was given the green light by planners at Bromsgrove District Council back in March, another four shared ownership homes will be built by our in-house construction team taking the total number of new homes to 18.

The MyPlace scheme will be situated a stone’s throw from Bromsgrove town centre and will offer adults with a learning disability the opportunity to live independently in their own home. The on-site resource hub will be used as a place for residents to socialise as well as somewhere that can offer training, employment advice, and activities to the wider community.

Close proximity

Catherine Ashley, MyPlace manager, said: “We’re thrilled to have begun construction on our Bromsgrove MyPlace development which will help regenerate the area and provide adults with long-term conditions a place to take control of their own life, reduce their dependency and ultimately live more independently.

“With home ownership proving so unaffordable for so many people, the other aspect of this development will provide high-quality homes which are perfect for first-time buyers hoping to get on the property ladder.”

Bromford’s MyPlace model, recently shortlisted for two national awards, is one of the first schemes of its kind in England to be built without funding from Government. Sites are carefully chosen so that they are in close proximity to local amenities and it ultimately offers local authorities a cheaper alternative to residential care accommodation.
