Bromford continues to partner with Shropshire Council and the Shropshire Primary Care Trust to kick start a healthy new year and is inviting people to join in with weekly and weekend group walks.

The Walking for Health Group meets up every Thursday at 1.30pm leaving from Abbots Wood Day Centre, opposite Beagle House in Shrewsbury. All walks are free and are led by trained volunteer walk leaders.

Mick Dunn, walking coordinator from Walking for Health, Shropshire Council says: “Walking with a group is a great way to get fit and stay healthy as well as meeting new friends and discovering lovely walks in your local community.”

Lyn Turnbull, Bromford support worker, says: “We started the walking group in 2012 and it has grown to 60 people at times. The group has seen friendships develop – a couple who met on one of our walks are getting married on 3 January 2015!”

The walking group caters for mixed abilities: Level one is on pathways suitable for wheelchairs, level two is a slightly faster, longer route. Walks take place in all weather so people are advised to wear suitable footwear and clothing – at this time of year, walking boots or wellies would be beneficial. Anyone is welcome and complementary tea and coffee is available after the walk at Beagle House. There is also a weekend walk programme and regular evening walks during the summer months.

Walks are free and there is no need to book. More details of the Abbots Wood Walk and the many other health walks in Shropshire can be found at
