Two large bulldozers have kicked off a regeneration scheme by Bromford to bring more new homes to Staffordshire.

The housing provider has started demolishing 12 of its empty properties which were costly to heat and run due to their concrete, non-traditional construction. As part of a £13m scheme across three sites in the county, the £4m investment in Clifton Campville will see 28 new two and three bedroom energy efficient homes built in their place.

The new rented and shared ownership homes on Lullington Road form part of Bromford’s second regeneration programme in Staffordshire and former residents at the Clifton Campville site were supported to find new homes where they wanted to live ahead of planning permission being obtained.

The site was then cleared and secured, which involved removing asbestos and any valuables from the properties, before a team from PBM Demolition moved onto site at the end of October to begin the demolition process which is expected to last around six weeks. Construction work will start on site in December once the buildings have been flattened and the site fully cleared.

Suzanne Shead, head of locality, said: “Seeing the bulldozers move in is always an impressive sight and marks a significant milestone in what is our second of three regeneration projects in Lichfield, Staffordshire.

“We’ve been working closely with residents and neighbours since the plans were announced in March 2016 and as part of our strategy to increase the supply of new homes as well as providing the right homes for all customers, Bromford decided the best option was to regenerate the site and breathe new life into the area. We know the new homes will meet a real local demand both for affordable rented homes as well as people looking to get a first step on the property ladder through shared ownership.”

The Paddocks, Bromford’s inaugural regeneration scheme at Levett Road, has seen 21 new homes built in place of 12 former properties as part of a £3.5m project expected to be complete by Christmas.
