Local social business Bromford are set to host a unique fishing competition at Arrow Valley Country Park in Redditch open to people with learning disabilities or who are disabled.
Taking place on Monday 26th August and set to be the largest open match for people with learning disabilities in UK, the Bromford Hubs have organised the event to celebrate the affordable housing and special support provider’s 50th anniversary. Open to all ages, the event is also hoping to give people with learning disabilities, mental health issues or disablement the opportunity to get involved with the calming sport.
There will be a host of prizes on offer, including the Bromford Hub Cup, and the day will also see food and drink as well as stalls from local charities.
Entry is £7 and with only 50 pegs available on the day, interest in the event is already hotting up. Studley Hub Advisor Trevor Underwood, a keen angler himself, has organised the event to make the sport more inclusive for all types of people.
He said; “We’re putting together what I hope will be a fantastic day, with lots of prizes and opportunities to get involved. I’m hoping to have anglers from some of the top teams in the UK to give advice on the day, and we’ve Goody bags for all entrants with gifts such as Groundbait from Sensas, who are also celebrating their 50th anniversary like Bromford.
“At the Hubs we provide drop-in support and events to a variety of people who suffer from learning disabilities. We see this fishing competition as a great way to get people out and about, meeting new people and having fun at the same time.”
The team is also currently looking for volunteers to lend a hand during the event.
Bromford have Hubs across Warwickshire with support available in Studley, Atherstone, Leamington and Stratford, offering drop-in support and events for the learning disability community.
