Love at first sight for Mandy and Stephen

After emigrating to New Zealand in 2008 and leaving their roots behind them, Mandy and Stephen Hicks decided to move back to the UK towards the end of last year to be closer to family.

Stephen had found a job working at Warwick University and the couple spent two weeks living in a Airbnb before settling on some temporary rental accommodation in Stratford-upon-Avon as they started the somewhat daunting challenge of house hunting.

“We hadn’t bought a house in the UK for over 20 years so it was definitely quite a stressful time and we must have visited every single site in the vicinity. Apart from one home we liked which fell through, we just couldn’t find that right house that we both agreed on,” Mandy explained.

“I was getting towards the end of my tether and then we were driving past the Quinton Fields site one day and Stephen said shall we pop in and have a look? We had nothing to lose so we walked into the show home and as soon as we spotted the Harrier design, we knew that was our new home. It was as simple and quick as that, we both loved it and it had everything we wanted and needed.”

She added: “We got our furniture delivered in January and then shortly after that lockdown arrived so clearly construction on the other phases and new neighbours moving in has temporarily been halted but we’re really looking forward to the community growing over the next few months. It’s in such a fantastic location – we had a sea view in New Zealand and we always said if we moved again, the location would have to be equally lovely and being so close to the Cotswolds it really is.

“The village has been full of decorated scarecrows during the lockdown and you can already get a sense of what the local spirit is like and we know we’re going to love living here.”
