Work has begun on a new housing development that will see the first affordable homes built in a Worcestershire village for years.

Midlands housing association Bromford is building a mix of 30 houses and flats in the heart of Ombersley on Main Road. The Kings Croft development will be a mixture of new two, three, four and five bedroom homes and one and two bedroom flats available to rent and buy.

The new homes form part of Bromford’s goal to build 14,000 new homes in the ten years to 2028. After building 1,000 in the last financial year, the housing association is on course to build another 1,000 this year, having already completed more than 600 new homes in the first seven months of the year.

Bromford’s own in-house construction team is building the new homes and have been carrying out ground work on the site in recent weeks.

Head of construction Simon Kershaw said: “This is an important site for us as these will be the first affordable homes built in the village in years and it’s great to be underway. It’s been a wet start to our work with all the recent rain but the ground work has been progressing well so far. We expect construction to take another 12 months to complete and aim to minimise disruption to villagers while we build our new homes.”

Twenty of the homes at Kings Croft will be available to buy and Bromford’s director of sales Catherine Jarrett said they were expecting lots of interest.
