New partnership deal to bring 50 affordable homes to Berkeley

More than 50 new affordable homes are due to be built in a rural Gloucestershire town over the next two years thanks to a new partnership.

We've secured a deal with national housebuilder Persimmon for 56 home being built at Canonbury Rise in Berkeley, close to the historic Berkeley Castle. The new homes are the first to be secured in Gloucestershire since the beginning of the Bromford and Merlin partnership with Merlin which began earlier in the summer. Over the next ten years we aim to build 14,000 homes, with around half of them in Gloucestershire.

Development Manager James McLoughlin said: “We’re delighted to be working with Persimmon to bring these new, affordable homes to Berkeley. Over the next decade Gloucestershire is going to be an important area for us as we seek to increase the number of affordable homes we own in the county.

“Recent research from the National Housing Federation shows there is a real need for more affordable housing in Gloucestershire. According to their latest Home Truths report, average house prices are more than 10 times average incomes. It’s a similar story in the Stroud District Council area, which is why we’re so pleased to have secured these homes.”

The 56 new affordable homes at Canonbury Rise will consist of two and three bedroom homes, with half of them being sold through shared ownership, an affordable way for people to own their home.

As well as the new homes in Berkeley we’re also currently building new homes in Quedgeley, Moreton-in-Marsh, Tetbury and Longford in Gloucestershire. In total Bromford owns 250 affordable homes in Stroud District Council area and 7,000 across all of Gloucestershire.
