A support scheme for young families celebrated its fifth birthday recently, with a fun-packed open day.

The Heath Way young families' scheme in Heath Hayes, Cannock has been successfully supporting vulnerable young parents in the local community since 2006, helping them develop the skills they need to live independently.

The scheme offers supported accommodation for seven young families in the Cannock area, with parents aged between 16 and 25 - couples or single parents - with children.

Local councillor John Bernard, attended the event and presented certificates and flowers to the original customers that lived at the scheme when it opened in 2006.

Anna Gillespie, Bromford Support Business Manager said: "We wanted to celebrate the fantastic work carried out by the Heath Way young families scheme, which helps prevent young families becoming repeatedly homeless."

There were many fun activities on the day including a bouncy castle and the animal lady, plus information and advice stalls from a range of agencies and the fire service.

The scheme is run by Bromford Support, part of the Bromford Group -a leading provider of social housing in central England - in partnership with Cannock Chase District Council and is funded by Staffordshire County Council's Joint Commissioning Unit.

Heath Way works regularly with a range of agencies, including health, social services and Citizens Advice and has a multi- agency steering group.
