Free careers and employment advice will be on offer to Nuneaton and Bedworth residents when the Opportunities Centre in Camp Hill opens its doors on Thursday 12 May 2011.

With unemployment figures concerning many, the event, which is being held from 2pm until 7pm, is aimed at both school leavers and adults looking for employment and training.

Employers from across a range of sectors who are recruiting locally will be on hand to give job-seekers information and advice about what opportunities are available and what they are looking for in their employees. There will also be a live 'jobs-board' advertising current vacancies across the region, along with advice and access to useful websites and materials.

Various training advisors will also be in attendance to offer advice of the types of skills employers are looking for and discuss what kinds of training opportunities are available.

Former Coventry City and West Bromwich Albion player Cyrille Regis, who was part of Coventry's 1987 FA winning squad, will also be attending to lend his support to the event.

Nigel Bond, manager at the Opportunities Centre, said, "This kind of event is really important as it offers the community a great opportunity to access a range of employers and training providers all under one roof.

"Anyone across Nuneaton and Bedworth who is looking for employment or is considering their next career steps are encouraged to attend. The event is free, informal and will hopefully set people on the right tracks to employment and training."

To add some fun to the event, attendees will also have the opportunity to enter a free draw to win goodies donated by Bromford Living, local developers Barratt Mercia and Lovell Partnerships, A Star, Two Wheels and Cawthornes.

The event has been organised by the Opportunities Centre with the support of Pride in Camp Hill, Warwickshire County Council, Bromford Living and the Coventry Development Agency.

Since opening in 2003 the Opportunities Centre, on Pool Road, has provided hands on training for the local community and assisting hundreds of residents to gain qualifications directly related to employment. Courses delivered include horticulture, IT courses, photography, motor-cycle repair and the CAMS programme, delivered in conjunction with Barratt Mercia. The team at the centre recently won a Warwickshire County Council GEM award in recognition of their efforts to raise education attainment and improve the lives of young people and their families.
