A Year 5 pupil will have her artwork displayed at School Gardens where Bromford’s new multi-million pound retirement living scheme is taking shape.

Alice Price, 9, has designed the stunning 4ft flag which will be attached to a crane and raised aloft on the historic Stourport site. Her design was chosen from 20 others in a competition run by Stourport Primary School to celebrate their former school site being transformed in a £10.5m development creating 60 high-quality retirement living apartments for over 55s.

The flag uses the words ‘recover’, ‘rejuvenate’ and ‘refresh’ to describe a transformation on land where Tan Lane Infants School, and later Stourport First School, stood for decades from 1897. The winning flag was presented to Alice in a celebration assembly on Friday 9th September and will soon be flown at School Gardens.

Headteacher Jacqui Elwis said: “It was very difficult to pick a winner and we had all sorts of designs submitted from Year 1 right up to Year 6 pupils. Ultimately Alice’s design really stood out and I was particularly impressed with how she had incorporated the former site, the school rainbow and the three key words into her artwork which really demonstrate a sense of what is happening to the old school site.”

Alex Dixon, Bromford’s director of new homes, said: “Before, during and after the transformation of School Gardens we have been really keen to involve the local community and Stourport Primary School is a key part in that.

“I love Alice’s design and the word ‘rejuvenate’ really does encapsulate what we are doing not just on the actual site but in the nearby community too. It was lovely to present the winning design to Alice and congratulate her on her creative flair and I’m sure the flag will really stand out on site during the rest of the construction work.”

The site, where work began in December 2015, is beginning to take shape with brickwork forming a significant part of the design. School Gardens will feature a range of one and two bedroom apartments for independent retirement living as well as offering residents the option of specialist support and care tailored to their needs. A catering firm for the on-site café and restaurant as well as positions in the gym and hair and beauty salon are currently being recruited for.

Members of the public and interested parties can find out more about the retirement living complex during an Information Day on Friday 30th September. The event will run between 10am and 4pm at Hallmark Hotel, on Hartlebury Road, and all are welcome to attend.
