Lease secured on new premises for Stratford Link Project

Thanks to partnership working and a commitment to providing a community space for Stratford residents, a new venue offering advice and support is now available on Waterside, Stratford upon Avon.

Social enterprise Bromford, the United Reform Church, Recovery Partnership and Stratford District Council - to name a few - worked together to come up with a solution when the previous premises became unavailable last August.

John Wilde, senior support worker for Bromford said: “Finding a new place was a challenge as it needed to be central, easily accessible and be able to meet the needs of the community. There wasn’t really anything ideal until this one-bedroom, first-floor flat was flagged by the council. We’ve just run our first drop-in session which went really well with nine people attending.

“I’d like to give a special thanks to Louise Drew from Shakespeare’s solicitors who provided services at a greatly reduced fee as part of their commitment to the community.”

The new hub continues the work of the Stratford Link Project which was previously held at the Buzz Café in Henley Street.  The project is a support initiative which has been helping around 20 local residents every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 1pm.  It is funded by various providers such as The Stratford Town Trust, Stratford District Council and Warwickshire’s Police & Crime Commissioner.

John continued: “Anyone is welcome to attend. It’s an informal, friendly space for people to pop in. We can help with access to other support providers and there are laptops for job searching, finding accommodation and general browsing. A podiatrist offers her services free of charge and people have got involved in some fun stuff too including access to a vegetable patch and song writing – basically whatever people want to do. They might just want to come along for a coffee and a chat.”

One regular attendee said: “Without the Stratford Link Project I dread to think where I would be. The project has been fantastic and without it I would defiantly not be where I am now. I am grateful for all the help I have received. I now feel doors have opened for me to see and live a more positive future.”
