Mick Kent, Chief Executive of Bromford, responds to today's Budget 2014 announcements.

It’s no great surprise that this year’s budget does not address many of the issues facing the housing sector and if you thought there would be, you must be living in cloud cuckoo land. Today’s announcement was never going to include more money being invested in housing and it was silly to think new grant schemes would be included.

The key thing that stood out for me is the Government’s focus on helping people get into work: it’s good to see the under-25’s will be helped by the extension of apprenticeship grant schemes and that graduate-level apprenticeships will also be developed.

We should be incentivising and enabling young people to understand the benefits of work and helping them to build resilience and self-belief which is something we already do with our own customers through the Bromford Deal.
