We are encouraging our customers to volunteer to help improve 450 acres of Telford’s green space.
Bromford is supporting the Green Brigade, a conservation group set up by local volunteer, John Trubshaw, who is passionate about improving and maintaining the natural environment.
John said: “I have always loved the great outdoors and through doing this with the Friends of Telford Town Park have leant skills such as hedge laying and coppicing and know a lot more about wildlife. I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to pass those skills onto youngsters to future proof their local environment and it will help those who are unemployed to upskill and build their confidence.
“Further down the line we would like to expand the project to include volunteers carrying out work with all of the friends groups via the Telford Green Spaces Partnership and offer a qualification but at the very least people will be achieving something and volunteering is always looked on favourably by potential employers.”
Matt Smart of Bromford said: “This is an ideal opportunity for our customers and anyone else who wants to volunteer. As a housing association, we don’t just provide a roof over people’s heads but encourage them to get involved in contributing to their community be it by working, training or volunteering.”
The Green Brigade will meet once a week – a calendar of activities will be available to view on StreetClub,(www.streetclub.co.uk) Green Brigade (using 1 Town Park as your registration address) or contact can be made via facebook, Friends of Telford Town Park, and an invitation to StreetClub will be sent.
People can get involved by contacting John directly on firstname.lastname@example.org or they can pop into the visitors centre at Telford Town Park on Southwater. Bromford customers can contact Matt Smart on 01902 396 893 or via Twitter @iMattSmart.
Matt concluded: “Our aim is to inspire people to be their best and it’s a win-win if they can improve their surroundings and encourage others to look after their local area.”
