Electric bikes helps jobs and wellbeing in Shropshire

Bromford has introduced a fleet of electric bikes to help customers get to work and improve general health and wellbeing.

This is the latest development from Transport Solutions, a service aimed at short-term travel help for people eligible for housing support or on low-level benefits.

Ollie Wheeler, support worker, said: “We have enabled 750 journeys in the last year. If a customer has just started employment they can loan an electric cycle for a short-term period, around a month, until they can travel independently. If someone needs help for longer, we can refer them to other services for longer loans.

“We now have six hubs where customers can loan bikes and nine community hubs across the county that people can drop into for advice.”

This is the second year of Transport Solutions and Bromford has identified further transport issues for Shropshire communities and works in partnership with others including Wheels to Work, CAB, Shropshire Community Transport Consortium, Job Change and sheltered housing schemes to promote group travel that is sustainable.

Bromford is part of Shropshire Support Partnership which offers a range of support including helping people get to job interviews, employment, training and social events.
