Royal Court, an older person residential scheme in Cheltenham, is going back in time to give residents, VIP guests and community members a taste of life in the 1950's.
Managed by leading support provider Bromford Support, the care home will be see 50's style fairground stalls such as tombolas and skittles, bric a brac, a raffle and a host of culinary delights from the bygone era.
Celebrations are set to be officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Cheltenham Councillor Colin Hay and Deputy Mayor Councillor Wendy Flynn, with the fayre open to residents of the scheme, their friends and family as well as local community members.
Festivities will also include residents reminiscing about life in the 50's as well as a 'retro sweets' stand. Bromford will also be putting together a memory box of photos, stories and memorabilia to bury as a jubilee time capsule.
The fayre will be from 2:00 - 5:00 with the Mayor of Cheltenham attending at 3:30.
Royal Court provides 24-hour support and care while allowing the 40 residents to experience independent living in their own accommodation. Wendy Hinton, Care Home Manger for Royal Court, believes events such as the 1950's fete help keep residents active in body and mind.
She said, "Getting residents involved in running an event such as our 1950's fete is a great way to stimulate them, and getting them to recollect their memories helps to prevent the onset of dementia, something we have experience in supporting here at Royal Court"
"It's set to be a top day, we've got lots going on and Bromford colleagues, residents and friends have really stepped up to the mark to help throw a great party. We're also really excited to be welcoming the Mayor of Cheltenham as our special guest."
There will be an opportunity for photos with the Mayor and residents at the event between 3.30pm and 4.00pm.
