Local job seekers are celebrating this week following the donation of a smart new laptop and 3G dongle to a Shrewsbury work club.

The Shrewsbury work club provides a place for job seekers to access support, advice and guidance as well as new skills to help them with their hunt for a job and applications. The club seeks to remove some of the stigma attached to job centres whilst linking local opportunities to local people.

The laptop was provided with funds raised from Bromford's very own in-house good cause, You Can. You Can is able to help fund additional services that aren't provided with the funding received from statutory agencies.

John Wade, Managing Director of Bromford said: "We feel that having a laptop available for the work club will assist with the growing trend for online applications and job searching. After all, the long term unemployed are also often digitally excluded. The more we can do to bring opportunity closer to people, the more success we will have. This will build on, compliment and extend the on-going work we are doing in Shropshire."

Bromford's work club in Upton Lane, Shrewsbury has successfully placed one of its customers in work this week meaning they have only been out of work for a couple of weeks. Sonieta Williams finished a short-term contract at the Royal Mail in January and approached Shrewsbury work club who helped her find a new role as a Care Assistant in a nursing home.

Sonieta said: "This new job means everything to me, I was desperate. The work club was very good - they helped with my CV, sent it out and supported me in looking for jobs. They were able to give me a reference which has helped me get this new role. We also had a great laugh and chat and I would recommend the club to anyone looking for work."

Jo Fieldhouse, Business Manager for the Shropshire area added: "We are so pleased to have helped Sonieta and would encourage anyone looking for work to get in touch with us. People come in from all walks of life - we've recently helped a preacher and a homeless person. We can help build confidence for people who have been out of work for a while - we recently helped someone find no tone but two jobs and even supplied the envelope and stamp to post the application."
