Bromford Support, Circle Housing Group and Stonham, part of Home Group, work in collaboration to offer wider service for vulnerable people.

Partnership for vulnerable people in Shropshire will officially launch next week.

The 'Shropshire Support Partnership' has been created thanks to a new partnership between Bromford Support, Circle Housing Group and Stonham, part of Home Group, to provide specialist support for people across the county.

People in Shropshire will be able to benefit from a variety of support including access to IT suites and group work activities, financial advice and an opportunity to join a regular walking group. Support is available for those living within social housing, private rented housing and homeowners.

Jo Fieldhouse, business manager at Bromford Support said: "We are delighted with the formation of Shropshire Support Partnership, it brings specialist help in new and innovative ways to more people in Shropshire than ever before. We are offering many opportunities to receive support when needed, in a way that people prefer, supporting them to overcome barriers in their life. For example, Shropshire Council has supported us to deliver a new Transport Solutions Service which helps people to overcome transport issues that occur in such a rural county and helping to sustain solutions for the future."

Four Open Days are being held next week for people to find out more, hear from customers about the support they have received and meet the teams. There will also be an opportunity to meet others who can help including local councillors, voluntary organisations, food bank providers and many more.

Phil Tinsley, project manager at Circle Housing Group said: "This is a brilliant opportunity to combine the range of services available from all three partners including our partners at Circle, Mercian Housing Association and Circle Support. We are working together to provide a new level of support for vulnerable people in Shropshire that we hope will increase their independence and security.

Christmas is a time of year when people can feel most vulnerable and we urge anyone in this position to get in touch to find out more about the support and help available."

Ayyaz Ahmed, business contract manager at Stonham which is part of Home Group said: "Our Shropshire Partnership is committed to developing a wide range of opportunities and support to people with specialist needs and range of circumstances, coupled with promoting social interaction and independence.

"Our primary aim is to challenge the way we develop opportunities for people to influence their lives and their communities."

Open Days will be held between 10am and 2pm on:

Monday, 10 December: New Century Court, Oswestry, SY112BP

Tuesday, 11 December, Beagle House, Eskdale Road, Shrewsbury, SY2 5GA

Case studies

Gina's story

"I didn't have a great upbringing: I was beaten up by my dad, abused by my step dad and my brother killed himself. I met my husband when I was very young and suffered 25 years of emotional, physical and mental abuse with him.

I was at my lowest when I got in touch with Bromford Support - I found their number on the internet and rang them up. I was in a mess and was assigned a support worker, Kevin, who has been an absolute godsend. He talks to me like I'm a human being and overtime has built my confidence which I'd completely lost. He is the first male I've been able to trust in a long, long time, has faith in me and inspires me to go on. He's an absolute star, very professional and committed.

He put me on a self confidence course and I am starting an English course in January. I recently spoke about domestic abuse at a forum and can't quite believe I addressed 200 people! I am now looking forward and hope that after 25 years of putting on a brave face I can finally move on and put the past behind me. I would urge anyone who feels isolated and alone to get in touch with Bromford Support. Don't suffer in silence."

Nora's story

Nora was supported with a bike when her own was damaged and unusable. She said: "I clipped the front tyre of my bike on a kerb which bent it completely. I work at a doctor's surgery and need to leave at 4.30 in the morning. I was completely stuck as I had no way of getting to work otherwise - there's no public transport at that time and walking would be unsafe as well as taking half an hour. The transport solutions service was really quick and efficient and I got a bike on loan within a week. It took a month to fix my own so I am really grateful that I had wheels for that time."
