Bromford executive director Helen Collins made the opening conference address as affordable housing senior professionals from around the world gathered in the Netherlands.
She set the scene at the International Housing Summit in her capacity as president of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH).
It was the first of two intensive days of hard-hitting debate, keynote speeches and working lunch sessions as Helen - head of the development team at Bromford - joined hundreds of senior delegates from around 20 countries.
She described the Rotterdam summit as a golden opportunity to learn from other housing professionals.
"The International Housing Summit is an invaluable opportunity for senior practitioners from the UK and all the other countries to take away ideas and connections that will help shape their organisation and sector into the future," said Helen. Her attendance at Rotterdam is being paid for by CIH and Ocean Media, the conference organisers.
The summit is the latest in a series of high-profile appointments for Helen, who will head the new 11-strong governing board announced by the CIH last week.
The new board is subject to a vote for the first time by all the CIH's 22,000 members at a general meeting in January and, if approved, will begin its work at once - bringing Helen's presidency to an end.
CIH interim chief executive Grainia Long said: "Our work to support the housing sector through the challenges and opportunities ahead has never been more important and the new board will play a key role in helping set the strategic direction for CIH and ensure we continue to provide excellent support for our members and the wider housing community."
