Tenants move into their new homes as a new multi-million pound housing development opens in Dudley

MOVING in day opened a new chapter for the first residents on a multi-million pound housing development in Dudley.


The milestone moment came when around 20 tenants got their keys to new Bromford homes on the Friars Gate development.
They include a mix of newcomers to the area and people like John Dickinson and Lindsey Silvester (pictured) who used to live on Dudley Council's former North Priory housing estate off Priory Road.


More than 20 homes, including bungalows and houses and three Homebuy Direct properties, have been handed over so far to affordable housing provider Bromford by development partner Keepmoat Homes.


Councillor Adrian Turner, cabinet member for housing, libraries and adult learning, said: "This project was all about bringing investment into the area and regenerating it into a place where people want to live now and in the future. It's great that the new residents are so excited to move in and start a new chapter in their lives."


Karen Dean, Bromford neighbourhood manager, said: "Handing over the keys to a new home is one of the most rewarding parts of our job in social housing - and it's especially true here at Friars Gate. This is a major milestone for all the partners in this landmark regeneration project."


Richard Moore, land and partnerships manager for Keepmoat Homes Midlands, said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Dudley Council to bring about positive and lasting change for local people. Everyone involved has worked tirelessly to get the project up and running and seeing the first residents move in really makes it all worthwhile."


The first phase of the project received government investment of £5.6m through the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to kick-start development.


Bromford is now pushing ahead with phases two and three of the development using a mixture of HCA funding and its own finances. A detailed planning application for both remaining phases has been submitted to the council and a decision is due by the end of the year.
