Double win for Bromford in housing awards

Innovation, hard work and a focus on value for money and excellent customer service earned Bromford two high-profile prizes at the UK Housing Awards.
The affordable housing and support provider's first win at London's Park Lane Hilton Hotel was in the Delivering Efficiency and Value for Money category.
Bromford notched up a second success in the Delivering Effective Repairs and Maintenance section - making it the only housing association to win two of the 11 categories recognising excellence.
A third shortlisted entry - Bromford Support's bid for the Outstanding Achievement in Housing (England) - was outpointed by Birmingham council's Municipal Housing Trust Scheme, which went onto win the overall UK prize.
First up on stage last Thursday (November 10) was director of financial reporting Russ Fowler who - with colleagues Pete Mottershead and Donna Scott - collected the efficiency trophy for the Not Just Surviving but Thriving entry.
Russ said: "It's great to get recognition for everyone across the business who has worked so hard to save money and be more efficient.
"We agreed from the start that nothing would be off scope as long as we continued to deliver excellent service and innovate.
"There are so many powerful examples across the business where colleagues have made a significant contribution to achieving greater efficiency and value for money.
"But I was particularly pleased that had two examplars with me when I went on stage - Peter, who delivered exceptional procurement savings of around £3m - and Donna Scott, whose community safety team had really picked up the baton of efficiency savings through self-managing many of the legal aspects of our work in this area."
Next in the spotlight were director of asset management Alex Dixon and head of asset management Jason Holder, who picked up the effective repairs award for their Homes That Don't Break Down entry. Bromford owns and/or manages around 26,500 homes across central England - around 5,600 on them in the Black Country and Birmingham.
Alex said: "I was confident we had a really strong entry and would have been really disappointed if he hadn't won but, of course, you never know until the winner's name is called out.
"Our entry was based around the clear message from customers that they want 'homes that don't break down'. Our repairs and maintenance service has to be really adaptable - and can be complex- but we have delivered what our customers asked for and developed and maintained a holistic preventative servicing approach to all our maintenance that delivers exceptional results."
Executive director Nick Cummins congratulated all the colleagues who put in work for the entries.
He said: "It's great to see our innovative approach to repairs getting national recognition and the VFM award will really help in our national influence work with government.
"It's a pity we didn't quite make it a hat-trick with the social and economic inclusion entry around our support work in building people's ability to develop their education, training and employment skills.
"But it's true to say that these award successes are a reflection of lots of hard work by colleagues right across the business so everyone should take a moment to bask in the reflected glory."
The annual awards - now in their 15th year - are co-organised by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and Inside Housing magazine.
The event was presented by Michael Portillo with Bromford executive director Helen Collins also there in her capacity as CIH President
