If you smell gas, it's important to act quickly.
Turn off the gas
- Turn your gas off at the meter
- You'll need to find the shut-off valve, which looks like a handle - there might be some tape to help you find it. Turn the valve all the way. The valve handle should now be across the pipe.
If you live in a flat, you may have an additional emergency control valve that needs to be turned off. Turn the valve until the handle is across the pipe work.
Ventilate your home
Open all windows, extinguish flames, and do not use electrical switches.
Call the national gas emergency service
Immediately call 0800 111 999 - this is the National Gas Emergency Service. They will provide further instructions and attend if necessary.
